BPO workers felt strong earthquake in Metro Manila
BPO workers especially those on shift definitely felt it. Call center workers reported the quake was felt on several areas like Makati, Pasay, Pasig, Caloocan, Taguig, Mandaluyong and more areas in Metro Manila which matches the report by PHILVOCS.
Phivolcs said the following intensities were felt:
Intensity IV – Pasig City; Pasay City; Manila City; Quezon City; Hagonoy, Bulacan; Makati City; San Mateo, Rizal; Obando, Bulacan
Intensity III – Tagaytay City; San Miguel, Tarlac;
Intensity II – Baguio City; Batangas City
The earthquake definitely caused anxious moments for several workers. Some were heard shouting, some hid under their desks, and some immediately exited their building.
“Nothing is more scary when you are in the 18th floor of the building”, one agent quips.
Looking back a 7.2 magnitude earthquake disrupted BPO operations in the Visayas last October 15, 2013. This resulted to hairline cracks on several buildings and prompted countless evacuations as the aftershocks were strong enough to halt operations. We have yet to get reports on the effects of the earthquake that hit Manila, but aftershocks are to be expected and it is highly recommended by the authorities that in events like these the last thing one can do is panic.
