I left the company cause I hate SALES
That’s what happened to me. I’ve been in the company for 3 years. I am a Technical Support Representative for a Cable Company supporting US customers. I would say I’m good at what I do, I am able to fix issues within our scope of support. I got passing scores too. Then suddenly they introduced Sales. At first they packaged it like it’s not a hard thing to do and we’d get commissions for made sales. Then moths after it became a part of our scorecard. I could tell that most employees hated it. We did not have a choice. I tried telling my supervisor about our plight to no avail. He explained that it’s what the clients want and that’s the direction we’re going. Well I could say I was struggling because of this change. I had made sales but I struggle to hit the quota month on month. YES! We have a quota. To me it was strange for a Technical Support rep to pass majority of his metrics and fail his scorecard just because of SALES. Time went on, I saw my colleagues leaving. It saddened me, I wanted to figure out a way to adapt. From passing my scorecard on a monthly basis, I was struggling each month. Then I saw my teammates enrolled in Performance Management Plans because they suck in Sales.
After so many months of enduring, I just am not happy anymore. They said most of the accounts in the BPO industry already have sales wherever you go. Clients are demanding that nowadays, it’s kind of the new thing and we can’t do something about it. Well maybe that’s the problem, clients can just demand whatever they want. I even heard even their internal centers, many of their local reps in the US objected getting into sales and many resigned. You know for me it’s just simple. You have people that fix issues, you pay them for that, that’s why they chose to be on Tech Support cause they want to fix issues and not SELL. On the other side, there are people who can take the daily grind and excel at selling and that’s why they are on SALES to begin with. You just can’t force it in people. Sometimes I think these companies or clients are just being to greedy. I get it that their trying to maximize their profit and efficiency but I sincerely think they lost out on the human factor.
After many agonizing months of contemplating, I left the company for GOOD. It’s just not in my DNA. I HATE SELLING!!! I just find it a little bit unfair why it had to end this way, not just for me but for the rest of my colleagues. I used to love working for that company. If not for sales I would have stayed. Now I can confidently say I’m happy and free.
